Crisis Counselor

I began my experience here at the height of the pandemic, and have since continued to help the community because I realized the most important thing for some is to have someone listen. Since then, I have done the following:
* Assist texters in immediate crisis, by providing resources and talking to them calmly
* Sending emergency services
* Developing a plan of action by working side-by-side with the texter

As schools began to move to online learning at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, I sensed there would be a significant hurdle for students, especially those in elementary, middle, and high school. I decided to help ease the transition to online learning by tutoring students in a variety of areas, such as S.T.E.M. AP, IB, honors, reading, writing, and even college biology and anatomy. I helped many students bring their grades up and make distance learning much less intimidating, while also being a mentor along their learning journey.

Throughout my experience as a physics learning assistant, I was able to tutor students struggling with physics 1 concepts, assist students during lecture, and hold office hours. In addition, my cohort of learning assistants and I met weekly at our seminar and discussed different teaching styles, the importance of certain teaching techniques, and areas of improvement. I utilized my previous experience in teaching, and my own personal study skills, to provide mentorship to students who were struggling with the rigor of the course and finding a work-life balance.
